Latest round of flushing is taking place in the College Road area.

Uisce Éireann is continuing with its planned flushing programme across Cork City with a further phase of flushing works to start on Monday, 06 October in the College Road area.

This programme is a series of proactive flushing works which aims to improve water quality for homes and businesses across Cork City and is part of Uisce Éireann’s network improvement plan to address water discolouration issues.

Planned flushing will begin in the listed areas on the evening of Monday, 06 October 2025 and is expected to take approximately three nights to complete. The areas being covered in this round of flushing works include:

  • Wycherley Terrace
  • Wycherley Place
  • McCurtain Villas
  • Elmhurst Mews
  • Fullers Road
  • St. Finbarr’s Road
  • Bandon Road (from Wycherley Terrace to 98 Street)
  • 98 Street (from Bandon Road to Noonan Road)

James Goulding, Uisce Éireann’s Operations Manager said: “We continue to see positive benefits from undertaking this programme of flushing and continue to monitor instances of reported discolouration. I would like to encourage customers to continue to report instances of discolouration through our new online reporting form or via our customer care team on 1800 278 278.”

As water improvement works progress through the area, signage will be put in place. Customers are also advised to check the supply and services section of the Uisce Éireann website on www.water.ie

To minimise disruption to the community, the works will be carried out at night during off peak usage hours, typically starting after 10pm and finishing in the early hours of the morning. This is to allow the network to have time to return to normal before the morning demand starts, reducing the potential for discoloured water at customers’ taps.

Uisce Éireann thanks customers for their patience as we continue to work to reduce instances of discolouration across Cork City.

Water can be discoloured due to sediment (including naturally occurring metals such as manganese and iron) becoming dislodged from old cast iron pipes or works on the water network in your area.

In the event of discolouration, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes - we recommend up to 20 minutes - will usually restore the water to a clear colour. The water is safe to drink once running clear. If the issue persists, please contact our customer care team on 1800 278 278 or report it via our dedicated online form at water.ie/cork so that we can investigate and respond promptly.
