Thousands will spend Christmas in emergency accommodation

As thousands of children prepare to spend Christmas Eve in emergency accommodation the Taoiseach has refused to provide a timeline for when the homelessness crisis will end.

This time last year then-Housing Minister Simon Coveney said all families would be out of hotels and B&Bs by July.

That didn’t happen and Leo Varadkar says it’s a tough issue to address.

He refused to be drawn into providing a timeline for those families as to when they can exit emergency accommodation in 2018.
