It's expected that the more than 100 third year nursing students from UCC will receive an allowance during their six weeks of training.
Cork North Central Deputy Mick Barry says it's believed that students will have to give up their part time jobs for health and safety reasons.
He added that it's understood UCC has offered an alternative time for training.
Deputy Barry says the students should be paid a wage for the duration of their placement
