Widespread Status Yellow and Orange weather warnings are in place across Ireland today.
West Cork has borne the brunt of the storm so far, with Glengarriff recording over 100 millimetres of rain yesterday. Several rivers burst their banks, leaving some roads flooded and impassable. Local crews are working to clear debris and restore safe passage where possible.
Cork County Council has urged motorists to avoid flooded areas and to be cautious of falling trees.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says while the rain is expected to ease by mid-afternoon, strong winds will follow, bringing further disruption. Gusts are likely to continue through the evening before easing on Saturday afternoon.
“West Cork this morning is very wet, but the real challenge will come this afternoon as winds pick up. Don’t drive into flooded areas—some spots have gone from bumper to roof in just 20 minutes.”
Residents are advised to stay informed through Met Éireann and local authorities, and to take all necessary precautions while Storm Amy continues to impact the region.
