Cork City Council says they were not a waste of money.
Cork city's controversial robot trees have been removed.
It is understood councillors were informed by management of the decision yesterday morning to remove the trees.
The Echo reports that by lunchtime, the trees were gone from Patrick Street and Grand Parade.
Cork City Council said the trees had not worked as well as the local authority had expected but had not been a waste of money.
Five `City Trees` were installed in 2021 as part of a strategy to tackle air pollution across the city.
