The visitor attraction is set to reopen in 2024.
Restoration work is continuing at Camden Fort Meagher in Crosshaven while the facility remains closed to the public until early next year.
An extensive essential renovation is being carried out in the block which houses the fort's primary exhibitions.
Works involves roof, stone and brickwork repairs and applying a new waterproof tanking system.
Cork County Council says its working with volunteers to ensure a successful reopening of the fort in 2024.
It is intended that the fort will open on additional days each week and for an extended season.
A full review of the potential for the fort has been carried out and future phases of its development identified.
