200,000+ Belgians to tune into Cork city and county

Over 200,000 Belgians are set to discover the charm of Cork city and county – on screen and on the airwaves – in an episode of a popular cultural programme called Les Belges du Bout du Monde (which roughly translates as ‘The Belgians at the end of the world’), which airs on both TV and radio in Belgium.

The series explores the lives of Belgians who have made a new life abroad. The episode filmed here features author and illustrator Nathalie Vessié, who swapped the Belgian city of Tournai for Cork six years ago and now runs a bed and breakfast. Nathalie shares how she has found inspiration in the beautiful landscapes and rich culture of her new home in Cork. Filming for the episode took place earlier this year at various locations, including Blackrock Castle Observatory, Charles Fort in Kinsale, Bantry House and Garden, as well as Garnish Island.

The special Cork episode will air on Sunday (23 November) on Belgium’s public broadcaster RTBF, as well as on La Une (TV) and La Première (radio). It will also reach a wider audience via the French language TV network, TV5MONDE.

Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Northern Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to welcome the crew from ‘Les Belges du Bout du Monde’ to film in Cork earlier this year. From beautiful coastal landscapes to superb food and cultural experiences, there is so much in Cork city and county that appeals to our Belgian holidaymakers – with some, like Nathalie, even choosing to stay! Our aim, in supporting broadcasts like this, is to inspire holidaymakers in Belgium and beyond to begin planning their own Irish adventure.”
