The subsea link will allow the exchange of electricity between Ireland and France.

The interconnector will make landfall in Youghal with an underground cable running to a converter station near Carrigtwohill.

The project will improve the security of electricity supply, help achieve climate objectives and reduce the cost of electricity.

In a tweet, Minister Eamon Ryan said it's expected the project will be built and energised by 2026.
