Project coordinators say the scheme will enhance Ballycotton's value as an amenity and help encourage social and economic development.
Uisce Eireann has announced commencement on the next stage of the 16.3 million euro investment in the Ballycotton Sewerage Scheme.
The project will bring an end to the daily discharge of untreated wastewater into Ballycotton Bay and involves the construction of a new treatment plant and sewer network for the village.
The works have been progressing well to date at the treatment plant site and the Cow Lane pumping station, while the next phase will require traffic management on main roads in the village.
It involves installing a new sewer network and will require a temporary lane closure on the main street from this week and is expected to take four months to complete.
A manned stop-go system will be in place during working hours and traffic lights by night.
The full project is due for completion next summer.
