This will facilitate a high-frequency commuter rail service from Mallow direct through the city to Midleton or Cobh.
The Taoiseach Micheal Martin is also set to unveil the preferred route for the Cork Luas project, the 17 kilometre light rail service running through the city from Ballincollig to Mahon.
