The Dail will hear a call for injury and assessment units to be opened up 24/7.

Local injury units like Mallow, Bantry and St Mary's Gurranabraher should be opened around the the clock as a way to instantly cut down on hospital overcrowding.

2022 was the worst year on record with over 121 ,000 patients left waiting for a bed.

Cork University Hospital was the most overcrowded in the country yesterday with 88 people on trolleys.

A motion before the Dáil today will call for injury and assessment units in Ireland's smaller, Level 2 hospitals to stay open 24 hours a day.
