Irish people urged to avoid non-essential overseas travel

That advice also now applies to travel to the UK which had been previously exempted.

People are asked to not go abroad unnecessarily until March 29th.

It comes as 54 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed this evening.

There are now 223 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

The Tanaiste says Ryanair and Aer Lingus are continuing flights to get passengers back from Spain with those flights expected to last until the weekend.

Simon Coveney also says new measures are being put in place for people arriving into Ireland
