
Authorities appeal to landowners not to carry out illegal burning.
Units of the Cork County Fire Service across five stations are battling a major gorse fire in West Cork this morning.
The alarm was raised shortly before 6am in the Ballydehob area.
Fire crews from Ballydehob , Bantry , Schull , Skibbereen and Dunmanway responded.
Efforts to contain the spread of the gorse fire are continuing.
Cork County Council has advised that it is illegal to use burning to control vegetation between the 1st of March and the 1st of September.
Fire Services continue to respond to ‘gorse fire’ call outs however given the current Covid 19 pandemic and its impact on resources, landowners are being called on to act responsibily and observe these laws.
