A number of scam texts are doing the rounds currently.
One Cork lady who was selling an item on a well-known reputable website received a text from a person who was interested in buying the item. The purchaser sent a link within the text, the lady selling the item clicked on the link and her account was cleaned out. Other scams claiming to be from Vodafone which contained a link, people have also clicked on this link and have lost money as a result, while some have entered bank details but thankfully the Bank noticed something was suspicious so stopped the transaction and informed the person in question.
However, Gardai are aware of another person who received a call suppose to be from Amazon, the lady who took the call gave her Revolut details and lost an amount of money.
Garda Frances Murphy of Bandon Garda Station is warning people to double-check all offers as many are too good to be true.
