€2.3 million was announced today to support the development of 50 outdoor adventure projects across Ireland.
Cork County Council are to receive €100,000 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme which aims to enhance outdoor amenities such as walkways, cycleways, rivers, lakes and beaches.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys announced the allocations this afternoon
In Cork two projects were in the announcement
- To explore the potential to extend the existing Capel View Cliff Walk eastwards from Knockadoon Pier
- Design a pedestrian bridge over the River Sullane, which will link the north of River Sullane section of town park to the south section of the park
Local Fianna Fáil TD Aindrias Moynihan has welcomed funding for the first step to advance a new pedestrian access to Macroom town park.
Deputy Moynihan said:
"The council have been looking at options to improve amenities locally including this pedestrian access and these funds under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme will be of huge benefit, allowing the design stage and the ground works needed to get underway.
"A new pedestrian bridge over the River Sullane will create much greater access to Macroom town park, which is hugely important for locals. The more we can improve infrastructure for the town the more opportunities will be available to people to get out and enjoy the outdoors."
These projects are to receive funding of up to €50,000 to bring them to a shovel-ready stage. Once at a shovel ready stage, they will be in a position to secure further funding through the other measures of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
