RSA says zero tolerance is needed on the use of seat belts.

The Road Safety Authority is urging us to belt up when in a car as new figures show there has been a drop in the number of people wearing them.

The findings of these latest stats show seat belt wearing rates by drivers fell by 4% when compared to 2022.

While it was down by 5% for front seat passengers, rear-seat passenger seat belt wearing rates went up.

Almost a quarter of car users killed between 2019-2023 were not wearing a seat belt.

Meanwhile, the number of learner drivers involved in fatal accidents has trebled in just four years.

It has sparked calls for a ban on them repeatedly getting learner permits.

So far this year, 86 people have been killed on the roads.
