FATAL SHOOTING IN BALLYPHEHANE.

A post mortem examination will be carried out today on the body of a 41-year old man who died in a shooting incident in Ballyphehane. Emergency services were called to a house on Plunkett Road at around 4.30 yesterday afternoon. The man named locally as Diarmuid Byrne who was living in the house was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later removed to Cork University Hospital. Another man who was in the house at the time is helping gardai with their inquiries. One theory being examined is that the men were handling a shotgun which discharged accidentally. Speaking to Cork's 96FM News , local Independent Councillor Mick Finn said the deceased was well liked in the community..
