The incident occurred on the M8 Motorway northbound, at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, Cork.
Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the M8 Motorway northbound, at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, Cork last night Saturday 20th September, 2025 at approximately 9.15pm.
The collision occurred between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound on the M8 motorway and involved a car and a pedestrian. A male pedestrian, aged 40 years was fatally injured as a result of the collision. His body has since been removed to the Mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.
The male driver (aged in his 20s) of the car was uninjured.
The M8 Motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound is currently closed pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to Gardaí.
