Emergency services carry out river rescue in Cork city

A man was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

3 units of the fire service in Cork city were called to an incident near the South Gate Bridge this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 9am when a person was seen in the river and fire crews responded.

A man was lifted to safety and taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

It is understood the injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
