The motion, co-signed by opposition parties during Sinn Féin speaking time, follows accusations of bias in Verona Murphy’s handling of last week's speaking rights row - charges she fiercely denies.
With the backing of the Government and regional independents, Murphy will keep her role as Ceann Comhairle.
But her relationship with almost half the Dáil has been seriously damaged.
