Search teams were called to a vessel in difficulty at Drakes Pool.
Crosshaven Coast Guard says it's disappointing that people would engage in a hoax callout of it's volunteer members.
Search teams along with colleagues from RNLI Crosshaven were tasked to a call of a vessel in difficulty near Drakes Pool last evening.
After 45 minutes of searching the call was deemed to be of a malicious hoax nature and both units were stood down and returned to station.
Coast Guard says it treats every call with the same urgency but it's very disappointing that people take advantage of this, unnecessarily getting volunteers out into sometimes dangerous and difficult situations for no reason.
As always, people are encouraged to immediately dial 112/999 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard, if you see or hear anyone in trouble on or near coasts or inland waterways.
