A national healthy eating audit of school canteens should be carried out.
That's according to Cork Senator Colm Burke who says it would ensure that students have access to healthy choices.
He added that it is important to educate young people on the need to eat healthily.
Senator Burke says the profits of catering companies should not come before the health of students.
