The knife was discovered in the course of the execution of a Bench Warrant in Fermoy this afternoon.
Gardai say they are thankful to have found the knife before the prisoner hurt somebody else or himself.
They added that in the wrong hands, it could be fatal.
An investigation file will now be prepared for the DPP on the matter.
