Cork County Council is being urged to launch a public information campaign.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Patrick Donovan has called on the local authority to run a media campaign to help families remove the names of deceased relatives from the Register of Electors.
He says many people are unaware of the process and are often distressed when polling cards or jury summons continue to arrive for loved ones who have passed away.
Speaking to Patricia Messinger on Cork Today on C103, Councillor Donovan said:
“When a loved one passes away, people just don’t think about the Register of Electors, and yet families are still receiving polling cards and even jury summons, which can be very upsetting.”
He added that the campaign would simply outline how to contact the franchise section of the council, helping to reduce errors on the register.
