In April 2025, the units covering Carrigaline and Douglas were amalgamated into one, and those covering Bishopstown and Ballincollig into another.
Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire called on the Minister for Justice for full-time units in each area, saying::
"Do you at least agree that it's not an ideal situation to see two different Gardaí stations being served by the same unit and that it would be a good use of additional resources to ensure that every station, including those in Carrigaline, Ballincollig, Bishopstown and Douglas, have a unit of their own to ensure that those big areas of population, busy areas with young populations, have a full-time unit, monitoring the crime in the area?”
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan responded by stating that deployment decisions are operational matters for Garda management.
