A counter-motion was passed at this week's County Council meeting

A Cork County Cllr has claimed that the government’s covid inquiry is ‘behind closed doors’ with ‘hand-picked’ individuals.

At this week’s Council meeting, Independent Peter O’Donoghue brought a motion that included a call for a ‘fully transparent, independent public inquiry’ into the previous government’s reaction to Covid.

A counter-motion was passed by 41 - 3 to hold off on this motion until the current inquiry is finished.

Cllr O’Donoghue believes what he is calling for is different to what’s underway; "very much different because what is being proposed by the government at the moment is basically a closed doors inquiry with hand-picked individuals within that inquiry, inquiring into the government's actions. And we know what the outcome of that inquiry is going to be, you know. So what we really need is a fully transparent inquiry, a public inquiry and an independent inquiry."
