Developers JCD Group had originally applied to An Bord Pleanala to build over 200 build-to-rent apartments on the site of the former Sextant Bar and Carey Tool Hire
The demolition of the historic building on Albert Quay had previously caused a lot of controversy
JCD Group have now deemed the plan for the apartments as non-viable for the site and intend to build a 16 storey office block instead
Some local councillors have criticised the U-Turn and change of plans saying the historic building should never have been demolished
