
A West Cork Secondary School is preparing to welcome boys for the first time next year.
Coláiste na Toirbhirte in Bandon is currently an all-female school and has been for the last 200 years.
The school known locally as the "Convent" was set up and run by the Presentation Sisters in Bandon.
Now in what is seen as a major change, from next year, the school will welcome Boys.
Research shows there is a need for another school to cater for boys in the Bandon area which would have a large hinterland in West Cork.
School principal Mary Galvin told Patricia Messinger on C103's Cork Today Show that the decision will address the issue of a lack of places for boys in the area:
