Assurances given over flooding in West Cork

Cork County Council and the OPW are assuring the people of Skibbereen that additional works to prevent flooding in the town are at an advanced stage.

It comes as Met Eireann issues a status orange weather warning for rain in Cork tonight.

Cork County Council were undertaking additional flood protection measures in Skibbereen last week before the torrential downpour hit the town which was flooded during Storm Ellen last Wednesday night.

Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath is visiting areas in West Cork that were affected by flooding in recent weeks.

He told Cork’s 96FM & C103 news that he has received assurances about Skibbereen:
